Saraswati Ghat Rajahmundry — Aksharabhyasam & Vidyaarambham

Saraswati Ghat in Rajamahendravaram is dedicated to Goddess Saraswati, the deity of knowledge and learning. During Godavari Pushkaralu 2027, this ghat is the most popular location for performing Aksharabhyasam (the initiation of children into formal education) and Vidyaarambham ceremonies. Parents bring their 2–5 year old children to take the holy dip, write their first letters in rice on a silver plate at the riverside, and seek blessings from temple priests.

About Aksharabhyasam at Saraswati Ghat

Aksharabhyasam is a sacred Hindu rite where a child is formally introduced to the world of learning. At Saraswati Ghat during Pushkaralu, the ceremony involves: (1) holy bath in the Godavari, (2) offering of fruits and akshintalu (turmeric rice) to Goddess Saraswati, (3) the child writes “Om Sri Maha Ganapathaye Namaha” in rice grains using their right index finger, guided by the priest, and (4) the child receives blessings, books, and pens. The ceremony takes about 30 minutes and is offered by certified temple priests for nominal donations.

  • Vasanta Panchami rituals — for those born on Saraswati Jayanti
