Narasapuram Major Facelift Ahead of Godavari Pushkaralu 2027
Narasapuram, the historic port town in West Godavari district where the river Godavari meets the Bay of Bengal, is undergoing a comprehensive facelift in preparation for Godavari Pushkaralu 2027. The Andhra Pradesh government has earmarked Narasapuram as a key terminal Pushkar bathing location — the spot where the holy river finally merges with the sea — and is investing in roads, ghats, sanitation, hospitality and heritage restoration.
Why Narasapuram Matters for Pushkaralu
According to scriptural tradition, a snanam at the sangam (confluence of river and sea) carries the highest spiritual merit during Pushkaralu. Narasapuram’s Antarvedi Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple ghat and Vasishta Godavari estuary are documented in the Skanda Purana as one of the most powerful places to perform Pitru Tarpanam.
Infrastructure Upgrades Underway
- Widening of the Narasapuram – Antarvedi road from 2 lanes to 4 lanes.
- Construction of three new ghats with stainless-steel handrails, RCC steps and lighting.
- Restoration of the colonial-era Narasapuram lighthouse and ferry wharf as a tourism heritage site.
- New 200-bed pilgrim accommodation block by APTDC (AP Tourism Development Corporation).
- Drinking water kiosks every 100 metres along the ghat road.
- Sewage upgradation and 24×7 mobile toilet coverage.
Sightseeing Around Narasapuram
Pilgrims can combine the Pushkaralu visit with the legendary Antarvedi Temple, the colonial Dutch Cemetery, the Narasapuram Beach, the Sakhinetipalli mangroves and the lace-making heritage of the town. See our Sightseeing Guide.
How to Reach Narasapuram
Narasapuram is connected by rail (Narasapur railway station, terminal of the Vijayawada-Narasapur line), road (NH-216 from Bhimavaram and Eluru) and water (boat from Antarvedi). Special APSRTC buses will run during Pushkaralu from Vijayawada, Eluru, Bhimavaram and Rajahmundry.
