Papikondalu Tourist Rush from Hyderabad — March 2026 Pre-Pushkaralu Surge

March 2026 saw an unprecedented surge of Hyderabad-based tourists heading to Papikondalu on the river Godavari, marking the first wave of the larger pilgrim and tourist movement expected ahead of Godavari Pushkaralu 2027. Travel operators reported a 60% rise in bookings compared to the same month in 2024, with most weekend boat slots from Rajahmundry and Pattiseema sold out two weeks in advance.

What is Driving the Surge?

  • Pre-Pushkaralu reconnaissance — families planning the 2027 pilgrimage are scouting routes a year ahead.
  • Improved boat services from APTDC and private operators along the Rajahmundry – Pattiseema – Perantapalli route.
  • Direct premium buses from Hyderabad to Rajahmundry on Friday nights, returning Sunday.
  • Social media buzz around the Godavari sunset cruise videos.

Papikondalu — What Makes It Special

Papikondalu is a stunning hill range where the Godavari narrows between dense Eastern Ghat forests, locally called the Grand Canyon of India. The boat journey passes Papisamudram, Kollur tribal village, Perantapalli ashram and the Munivatipalli waterfall. During Pushkaralu, special boats also stop at Pattiseema Veerabhadra Swamy Temple for pilgrim darshan.

Booking Tips for Pushkaralu 2027

  • Book APTDC boats at least 4 weeks in advance during the festival window.
  • Day trips depart 09:00 from Rajahmundry or Pattiseema; pilgrim package is approximately INR 2,500 per adult.
  • Carry photo ID and Pushkar registration token if rolled out by the AP government.
  • Avoid crowded weekends — weekday slots are calmer and offer better photography.
